The Oregon Aquaculture Association promotes aquatic animal and plant production and education to further expand the availability and knowledge of sustainably-raised, healthy, and nutritious consumer products while conserving Oregon’s natural resources.
Our Goals
The Oregon Aquaculture Association fulfills its mission by advancing the following goals:
OAA provides a medium for curated science-based information sharing and outreach with opportunities to promote and engage in dialogue between its members, government agencies and officials, non-governmental organizations, and the public.
OAA encourages furthering aquaculture’s role in sustainable food production and food security and promotes consumer awareness of healthy and nutritious aquaculture products.
OAA supports a diversified aquaculture program including, among others, operations focusing on ornamental products, baitfish and stockers, aquaponics, algal farming, nursing aquatic macrophytes, and cultivation of other aquatic products not destined for human consumption.
OAA embraces sustainability and environmental stewardship and understands its responsibility in promoting the effective and efficient use of natural resources.
OAA advocates for business-friendly regulations and provides its members with representation of the aquaculture industry before local, state, and federal government agencies and relevant stakeholder or civil society groups.
OAA encourages scientific research and education initiatives to enhance aquatic production and knowledge using sustainable and climate-smart methods.
